About Us
Who We Are
The Foundation for Inclusion, Equity in Livelihoods and Development (FIELD) is a non-profit organization established in 2019 to respond to the growing humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding challenges across Northern Nigeria. FIELD began community-based operations in 2020, at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic intensified existing vulnerabilities in already fragile communities.
For more than a decade, armed conflict, farmer–herder clashes, and widespread insecurity have devastated the Northeast, Northwest, and North Central regions of Nigeria. These crises have displaced millions of people, disrupted education systems, weakened livelihoods, and eroded social cohesion—placing children and young people at particular risk.
In the Northeast, prolonged insurgency has denied millions of children access to safe and continuous education. In the Northwest, banditry and mass abductions have led to widespread school closures and deepened fear among families. In the North Central, recurring farmer–herder violence in states such as Benue, Plateau, and Kaduna has displaced over 1.5 million people, undermining food security and uprooting entire communities.
Behind these numbers are real human stories—families forced from their homes, children growing up without safe learning or recreational spaces, and communities struggling to rebuild trust and peaceful
What We Do
FIELD exists to restore hope and opportunity. We design and deliver community-driven, evidence-based solutions that strengthen resilience and promote inclusive development. Our work focuses on:
- Education and skills development
- Sustainable livelihoods and economic inclusion
- Gender equality and social inclusion
- Peacebuilding and social cohesion
Recognizing the unifying power of sport, FIELD strategically integrates sports—especially football for peace—into its programming. Through sport-based initiatives, we engage youth, promote teamwork and dialogue, support trauma healing, and foster peaceful coexistence in communities affected by conflict and displacement.
Our Approach
FIELD’s approach combines research, digital innovation, grassroots engagement, and partnerships with communities and institutions. Our work aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 4: Quality Education
- SDG 5: Gender Equality
- SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
We believe that education, livelihoods, and peace are deeply interconnected—and that inclusive, locally driven solutions are essential for lasting impact.
Our Vision
Together with communities, partners, and stakeholders, FIELD is building a more inclusive, peaceful, and resilient Northern Nigeria, where every child can learn, every family can thrive, and the power of sport helps unite communities and shape a more hopeful future.
A Brief History
The Foundation for Inclusion, Equity in Livelihoods and Development (FIELD) was established in 2019 in response to the deepening humanitarian and development crisis across Northern Nigeria. FIELD commenced community-based operations in 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when already fragile communities faced compounded health, economic, and security shocks.
For over a decade, armed conflict, farmer–herder clashes, and widespread insecurity have devastated the Northeast, Northwest, and North Central regions. These crises have displaced millions, fractured social cohesion, and placed children’s futures at grave risk.
In the Northeast, prolonged insurgency has disrupted education for millions of children, leaving schools destroyed or unsafe. In the Northwest, banditry and mass abductions have forced widespread school closures and deepened fear among families. In the North Central, persistent farmer–herder violence in states such as Benue, Plateau, and Kaduna has displaced more than 1.5 million people, undermining food security and uprooting entire communities.
Behind these figures are human stories—families forced from their land, children growing up without access to safe education or recreation, and communities struggling to rebuild trust and peaceful coexistence.
FIELD exists to change this reality. We deliver community-driven, evidence-based solutions that restore hope, strengthen resilience, and create equitable pathways for education, livelihoods, gender inclusion, and peacebuilding. Recognizing the power of sport as a unifying force, FIELD strategically integrates sports—especially football for peace—into its programming to promote social cohesion, trauma healing, youth engagement, and non-violent conflict resolution in divided communities.
Our work aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16). By combining research, digital innovation, grassroots action, and sport-based peace initiatives, FIELD ensures that no child is denied education, no family is excluded from livelihoods, and no community is left behind.
Together with communities and partners, FIELD is building a more inclusive, peaceful, and resilient Northern Nigeria—where education, opportunity, and the unifying power of sport create lasting change.
